We are a different type of acting school.

The Yat/Bentley Method of Acting comes from a long theatre lineage. We are furthering the work of both American and international theatre philosophers and practitioners.

The Yat/Bentley Centre for Performance is now enrolling for our Summer Intensives 2022!

This summer we offer in-person Intensives in L.A., S.F. Bay Area and NYC as well as classes and workshops offered online via Zoom.

There are course offerings for everyone, from beginners to advanced artists. Private sessions with Tom Bentley-Fisher and members of the YBC Teaching Company also available.

CHARACTER TRANSFORMATION INTENSIVE | Finding the Sensation
Yat Malmgren’s Psychology of Movement for the 21st Century Artist

In an intense and joyful weekend, identify the fundamental sensations and pathways that will allow you to deepen your performance work. If you have studied Yat Malmgren’s work, this will give you a different perspective. If you are new to the work, this is the first step!

Experience and take away the tools of:

  • The Swings – Physical exercises to free the inner and outer lives of the performer.

  • The Inner Participations - Psychophysical sensations developed by Rudolf Laban that add specificity to any action or activity.

Explore the importance of coming from a place of deep truth and imagination through: 

  • Identifying the inner movement of Sensing, Thinking, Intuiting, and Feeling Jung’s psychological types.

  • Experiencing the activation of Intending, Attending, Deciding, and Adapting.

  • Developing the manifestation of these energies through Weight, Space, Time, and Flow.

  • Engaging with The Spheres – Psychophysical exercises that uncover the energies within and without. Find and trust your inner essence and begin to unfold that energy with confidence.

INSIDE THE OUTSIDE EYE | Zoom Intensive for Directors and Teachers:
July 18-27 - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 6-9pm PDT on Zoom (CLASS)

Develop your route to teaching or directing with clarity and depth, rooted in the skills developed through the Yat/Bentley Method.

In this six-session class Directing and Teaching students will work together during some classes and split into separate breakout rooms to work with their director or teacher cohort during others.

Through hands-on exercises and experiences, you will develop your own methods for:

  • Connecting with and understanding the performer

  • Developing and following a creation process 

Teachers: Investigate and expand your natural gifts and start down a path that can ultimately bring you to teaching the Yat/Bentley technique through your own special skills.

Directors: Explore how your directorial eye can make use of the Yat/Bentley Method in staging, design, preparation, and most importantly, your work with actors.
