Fall Term 2023
We are a different type of acting school.
Our students’ focus is on their artistry; mastering this path to transformation. Yat Malmgren is the best kept secret of acting training. His revolutionary approach produced some of the finest actors in the UK. The Yat/Bentley Center for Performance is the only US school to teach this work in its entirety both in person and online. Some former students of Yat's internally muscular work are: Anthony Hopkins, Sean Connery, Tom Harding, Emilia Clarke, Helen McCrory, Michael Fassbender, Colin Firth and Frances de la Tour.
The Yat/Bentley Method has evolved from the work of both American and International 20th Century philosophers and theatre practitioners including Stanislavski, Jung, Hagen, Laban, in addition to Yat Malmgren. Right now, we need a psychologically healthy acting training. At YBC artists choose to investigate at their own pace with encouragement and support. The work is thorough and deep. We work with students to access and harness the energies of both their inner and outer life.
This work is suitable for artists of all kinds, and anyone who wishes to deeply investigate their habits and personality in the pursuit of transformation.
In the 2023-24 school year, we are offering 3 x 10-week terms in classes no larger than 10 students. Attending all three terms will expose students to the full curriculum. Using Jungian psychology, Yat developed a unique set of 6 character types, each with 4-6 variations. Each term we will investigate paired opposites of character types. Students will engage in the curriculum through improvisation and text which leads to character creation.
Classes are offered in person in the SF Bay Area, LA and on Zoom.
Not ready to enroll quite yet? You can also reach out directly to team (at) yatbentley.com. We look forward to speaking.
